The Apple Watch Series 10 was announced on September 9, 2024 and released on September 20, 2024. It is the 10th generation of Apple's smartwatch line and the first major redesign since the Apple Watch Series 7, featuring a thinner 9.7 mm profile, larger rounded display, and a new flatter Retina LTPO3 OLED. Hardware: two case sizes — 42 mm (374 x 446 pixels, 989 sq mm display area) and 46 mm (416 x 496 pixels, 1115 sq mm). Powered by the Apple S10 SiP (64-bit dual-core, 4-core Neural Engine). Health sensors include a blood oxygen (SpO2) sensor, electrical heart rate sensor (ECG), optical heart rate sensor, skin temperature sensor, high-g accelerometer (up to 256 g-force), gyroscope, altimeter, compass, and ambient light. New features on Series 10 include the double-tap gesture, snap-on magnetic bands, and a wider-angle display. Battery lasts up to 18 hours normal use, or 36 hours in low power mode. Charging is via USB-C magnetic fast charger. Water resistance is 50 m (swimproof) with IP6X dust resistance. Connectivity: Wi-Fi 4 (802.11b/g/n), Bluetooth 5.3, NFC for Apple Pay, and a second-generation Ultra Wideband (U1) chip for precise location of Apple devices. Cellular (LTE) models available as an option. Security model: the watch must be paired with an iPhone running iOS 18 or later. On-wrist authentication is via a 4-6 digit numeric passcode; there is no biometric sensor on the watch itself (Face ID/Touch ID lives on the paired iPhone). Once unlocked and on the wrist, the watch stays unlocked via wrist detection. Activation Lock ties the watch to the owner's Apple ID — the watch cannot be erased or re-paired without the Apple ID password. All on-watch data is encrypted with 256-bit AES under the Secure Enclave. Apple provides 5+ years of watchOS updates.
